Unfortunately, I never got to meet my great grandmother Betty who inspired this whole project. Despite never meeting her, I feel like i’ve developed quite a connection with her through researching all about her, her family and her time during The War. Before my book went on general sale, I thought I should take a copy to ‘show’ her first. In late October we visited her grave with a copy of the book, her AAGB collar dog that she wore through The War, one of our reproduction arm badges and her newly claimed Defence Medal. On Remembrance Sunday, I proudly wore her defence medal ribbon on the right hand side of my St John Ambulance uniform. She never knew of me, but I hope she would be proud that what she did in the war, will now be preserved for generations to come.
